City bike
Practical, safe, and stylish—these are the essentials your bike parts need for daily use in the urban jungle. And that's exactly what we have masterfully realised with our special components for the city. But what exactly do add-on parts have to fulfil to be suitable for a city bike? In Germany at least, this is determined by the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO). It defines a certain safety standard that also protects you as a road user.
Roadworthy bicycle - what does the StVZO require?
To keep the joy of cycling unclouded, having roadworthy equipment is essential. - for your safety and that of other road users. So, which components are roadworthy according to the StVZO in Germany? Learn more.

Handlebars & stems
On a city bike or Dutch bike, you usually sit with your back upright and in a very relaxed position. The choice of handlebar and matching stem play a major role in ergonomics.
Grips
Finding a grip that suits you perfectly is now very easy with our MERGE grips. They are divided into three different categories based on your riding style: "Relaxed", "Active" and "Sport". The name offers an additional hint about the intended field of use. All MERGE grips with the term "City" or "Urban" in the name can be fitted to your city or Dutch bike without thinking twice.

Saddles
If your bike is one of your main transport options, you know that comfort is just as important as safety when it comes to cycling equipment. You'll find a combination of both in the CONTEC Anatomic saddles. What's more, the models are super practical for commuters. The integrated grip on the underside of the saddle makes it much easier to lift the bike onto the tram or out of the bike cellar, for example. This is particularly useful for folding bikes.
CONTEC Anatomic
The Anatomic saddles are made of high density PU foam and gel insert that moulds to the shape of your buttocks when you sit down and slides back into its original shape when you get off. The surface consists of a synthetic PVC cover that is vacuum-sealed, 100% waterproof and therefore easy to clean. This is particularly important if, for example, you ride your bike to work and park it outside. If it rains, your saddle will not be damaged thanks to it being waterproof.

Seatposts
A seatpost can do so much more than just hold your saddle in position - thanks to different suspension technologies and additional functions, they can enhance the ergonomics of your bike. With a dropper seatpost, you can lower your saddle and get on without having to contort yourself and comfortably rest both feet on the ground at a red light for example. With a suspension seatpost, you can reduce the pain in your back and buttocks when riding over cobbled streets or kerbs. How about a combination of both seatposts?
CONTEC Nara Dropair DLX
The Nara Dropair DLX combines the advantages of a dropper seatpost with the comfort of air suspension. You can easily adjust the saddle height using a switch on the handlebar. By operating the lever, the saddle then lowers or raises continuously. The extra Teflon coating protects the seatpost from damage to the paintwork and also allows the saddle height to be adjusted smoothly.
Pedals
Safety should always come first. That's why reflectors on pedals used in road traffic are mandatory according to the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO). Another feature of a good city pedal is an anti-slip surface. A sandpaper or rubber structure is usually the best way to ride in wet weather conditions. If you like travelling with a folding bike and/or transporting your bike on the tram, a folding pedal can be very useful and space-saving. This is because it can be easily folded up so that you will longer get stuck anywhere.
Suitable pedals for city cyclists and commuters:
Wheels
Bumpy cobblestone streets in the old town, tram grooves and kerbs can no longer bother you. The CONTEC Zen Disc Eroq wheels are ideal for commuters and everyday riders. The frame of the reliable wheels is formed by the CONTEC Zen rim: With sizes from 20" to 28" and inner rim widths from 19 to 25mm, we also fully cover the needs of folding, compact and cargo bikes. Thanks to the doublewall design, the aluminium Zen rim and robust CONTEC EROQ front and rear hub are suitable for a system weight of up to 150 kg. They can therefore also be fitted to e-bikes. The Zen Disc Eroq wheels are only suitable for disc brakes.
All CONTEC wheels are assembled in our wheel factory in Hoya/Lower Saxony (Germany) by experienced specialists and perfectly centred using the latest technology.
Hub dynamos
You should never ride your city bike in traffic without lights. It is important that other road users can see you and that your route is illuminated if you are travelling in the dark. On e-bikes, the lighting is usually powered by the built-in battery for the drive. Bikes without e-drive have to rely on battery or dynamo lighting.
CONTEC Powerhouse 1+
The CONTEC Powerhouse 1+ hub dynamo supplies your lights with just as much electricity as an e-bike battery. The small power station reliably provides light for your bike in all weather conditions. The low-maintenance hub dynamo has powerful NdFeB magnets that are highly effective with very low resistance. Even at low speeds, there is always enough power available for the lights to emit light without flickering. The Powerhouse 1+ is available in different versions to cover all common wheel sizes and types.
Stands
Nothing is more annoying than seeing your bike lying on the ground after a stroll through town. To prevent your bike from being knocked over by the wind or other leaning bikes, you should fit a kickstand. At CONTEC, you will find the right kickstand for every type of bike.
CONTEC Rhino
The Rhino side and rear kickstands are suitable for all standard bikes with wheels from 24 to 29 inches. They are made from die-cast aluminium and have a wide plastic base for a secure stand. The "Rhinos" can carry bikes weighing up to 20 kilograms. Another plus is the height adjustability, which allows you to adjust the stands to fit your bike perfectly.
CONTEC Mito 90
The Mito 90 is ideal for all cyclists with a relaxed riding style. The number in the name stands for the posture required for the handlebar. Your back should be at a 90° angle to the ground on a Dutch bike or city bike. This means you don't risk overstretching your hands.
CONTEC Ueda Fix
For a relaxed riding position, the stem on your city bike should be short and steep. The high angle ensures that the handlebar sits higher and you therefore have to lean less forwards. The Ueda Fix is available in three different lengths and has an angle of 30°.
