Shift yourself in the right direction – this is the new cassette series from CONTEC!
Smooth shifting - it’s an important part when cycling. But what happens when it stops working well? We take a closer look at one of the most important drivetrain components: the cassette!
The performance of your cassette is crucial to ensure that your derailleur runs smoothly. Factors such as material and strength play a major role here. In our new "Grad" product series, we explain the individual components and functions of a cassette. We will then show you how to recognise wear on your drive components and how to replace your cassette.
How can I recognise wear on my cassette?
The answer to this question is relatively simple. If the teeth of your cassette - i.e. the teeth on the individual sprockets - are worn, it is high time to change your cassette. A tooth is worn when it no longer has a symmetrical shape, but looks more like a shark's fin.
Great spec, great performance: CONTEC Grad
Our new cassettes for bikes and e-bikes are made of particularly high tensile steel, which is lighter and more durable than conventional aluminum models. Thanks to the longer maintenance intervals, you don't have to replace the wearing parts as often. Our Grad cassettes have different gradations in the number of teeth and have special climbing aids for the chain that make each of your gear changes faster and smoother.
The Grad.HT variant, for example, is reinforced to withstand the high torque of an e-bike mid-motor. We also have the Grad.LG cassette specifically for Shimano's Linkglide technology. Here we give you an overview of all the different functions and versions.

CONTEC Grad
CONTEC Grad is the basic version of the cassette series with the most common gradations - but its function and durability are anything but basic! The model consists of two different materials, which ensures both low weight and less wear.
The largest sprocket - which usually is the heaviest - is made of aluminum and is therefore particularly light. For the smallest sprocket, we used particularly high tensile steel in the development of the Grad models. Why? So that the cassettes can withstand the higher torques that are exerted on the smaller teeth better. Ultimately, this means that you have longer maintenance intervals and your cassette stays intact for longer - even if you ride your bike a lot and pedal hard.
We have also integrated special climbing aids for the chain into our Grad cassettes so that you don't have to think too much about shifting while riding to fully concentrate on your journey.
CONTEC Grad.HT
The next model in our cassette series differs only minimally from the basic version but is also suitable for e-bikes. CONTEC Grad.HT is made entirely of reinforced high tensile steel and can therefore withstand the high torques of e-bike motors. This version also has practical features such as a climbing aid for the chain, allowing you to ride with superior shifting performance. Like the "Grad" model, Grad.HT is available in 8- to 12-speed versions and covers the most common gear ratios.
By the way: As one might assume at first, the "HT" does not stand for the high tensile steel used or installed but is the abbreviation for “high torque".
CONTEC Grad.LG
The Grad.LG variant is our specialty or specialist in the cassette series. The basic structure is very similar to the other two models. For example, the sprockets are also made of high tensile steel, which means that this variant also has a lower wear rate.
However, the Grad.LG cassette was designed to be suitable for e-bike gears with Shimano Linkglide technology. It is therefore three times more durable than conventional cassettes! Our Grad.LG cassettes have special climbing aids for the chain, which even enables shifting under load. The gear can therefore be changed faster and more smoothly. Disturbing noises and misfires are highly reduced.
Due to the special features of this cassette, it is only available in 9- to 11-speed versions and is only suitable for Shimano Linkglide gears, such as Cues. Accordingly, the CONTEC Grad.LG cassette, regardless of the version, is only compatible with 11-speed Linkglide chains.
